The 1954 Electoral Roll shows that the family were established at 6 Scott Street, Canterbury in the electoral subdivision of Deepdene, where Bill followed his trade in painting and decorating. In those days, it was a good solid protestant middle class areas of Melbourne. Later the Australian TV series called 'The Sullivans' was situated in East Camberwell, not far Bill and Ellen's home in Canterbury. They were 'good' suburbs to raise a young family in before and particularly after the war. Nowadays they are amongst the most expensive inner to middle eastern suburbs of Melbourne. |
