On 4 November 1834 John CROMPTON married Ann JEFFERSON, the girl next door, who lived at Great Houndales.

Originally, in the 1822 will of John's grandfather, Thomas of Bridlington, the properties in Bridlington and Nafferton were to be held in trust by Thomas Richardson CROMPTON until 1832 when it was to pass to Thomas, John's eldest brother. But by 1840 John appeared to be farming Houndales, on his own ...

The 1841 census shows Ann at Houndales, but there is no obvious record of John. Was he working at Thornholme where the family were found in the 1851 census?

The farm is not named in any of the census returns. In 1861 it is the tenth building listed by the enumerator. There are four shapes which create a farm yard image. However, the census only lists one farm in the village and one named farm, Moor Farm, near Two Gates Houses.

Deaths. On Saturday last to the inexpressible grief of the family and friends, Ann the beloved wife of Mr. John Crompton, of Thornholme, near Bridlington aged 46.

... and John on the 26 May 1872 (GRO ref: Bridlington 9d 193) aged 68. He was buried in St Martin's Church, Burton Agnes
